- Anandamuni Yoga Skidless Towel
But first—do you really need a yoga towel with grip during your sessions?
A yoga session just isn’t the same without a yoga mat. If it weren’t for that accessory, yogis would be slipping and sliding all over floors during sessions, so it’s a pre-requisite item. On the other hand, there’s still the question of needing a hot yoga towel to put on top of the mat. Using your trusty old bath towel isn’t ideal for yoga sessions and it won’t have a good grip on your mat, plus they can get pretty heavy and stinky as you sweat. Yoga towels actually have grips that can prevent it from sliding off of your mat and they’re made from microfiber.
If you’re someone who sweats a lot, wants to practice good hygiene during workouts, and doesn’t want their mat to deteriorate quickly, then buying a yoga towel is a pretty sound investment, if you ask us.
Yoga towels act as a protection for your mat and keep things hygienic at the same time. Yoga mats are made of various materials, but not all of them are as absorbent and washing machine-friendly as hot yoga towels. Plus, towels will keep you protected from the yoga mats in the studio that you have no idea who sweated on it.
Yoga towels are especially made to be non-slip when placed on top of yoga mats. They have nubs on the bottom that grip on to yoga mats. Compared to your bath towels at home, yoga towels are far more absorbent and faster drying.
If you’re a noob, then don’t hesitate with looking into buying one for your yoga sessions. Regardless of the brand, yoga towels usually come in a standard size as yoga mats, but can be larger or smaller, depending on what you’re looking for. They can even be a complete substitute to your yoga mat if you choose to. But in the end, hot yoga towels are perfect to keep your sweating at bay.
Another thing to consider is the fact that yoga mats can become a bit slippery with perspiration, making it unsafe for you to hold your poses. Yoga towels can provide a big help to keep you safe and dry in the studio.
Some folks tend to use towels from their home or for the beach to soak up their sweat during intense yoga sessions, but the issue is that these kinds of towels don’t stay put on top of a yoga mat or the floor. You’ll only waste time trying to straighten out a cotton towel instead of focusing on poses and breathing.
What To Keep In Mind Before Buying a Hot Yoga Towel
Compatibility and protection
We all know how expensive yoga mats can get, so it’s only right to think about how to make it last without being replaced for a few years or so. Admit it, you can sometimes feel the friction from your body destroying your mat bit by bit every time you do a session! Using a yoga towel on top of your mat protects it from constant wear and tear.
Some brands bundle these two together as a package, while others have separate products that are guaranteed to be compatible with each other. But honestly, you can just pick a hot yoga towel brand that you like and trust and make sure that the size of it is the same as your yoga mat’s and you’re good to go.
Absorbent material
Bikram yoga and hot yoga, while calming, can get your blood pumping and make you sweat bullets. Yoga mats can’t really suck up all the perspiration plus humidity coming from your body, so this is where the magic and awesomeness of yoga towels will come in handy. You only have to place a yoga towel on top of your mat to collect all the sweat coming from your body, helping you keep cool and cry while you do your poses.
Not really the type to sweat a lot? Then you can also opt out of buying a full-sized yoga towel and just purchased one that’s smaller—perfect for wiping sweat off of your hands and face. You wouldn’t want to be the person who has weird, sweaty hands and find yourself wiping on your workout clothes instead of a handy dandy hot yoga towel.
Keeping Things Clean
Yoga mats get sticky as the days go by. Meticulous people will deep clean their mats every week or so, but others are already content enough with spraying it down with cleaning solutions or just some soap and water. For yoga towels, you can just toss it inside your washing machine and let it do its thing. If you’re someone who uses mats at a yoga studio, then yes. Definitely buy a yoga towel. You don’t know who used those mats and at least you have an idea if you’re washed your hot yoga towel or not this week.
The Versatility of Hot Yoga Towels
Even if you decide to stop doing yoga or if you mix it up with other workouts during the week, you can still use your yoga towel. Since they’re made of extra-absorbent materials, you can use them during pilates or high-intensity interval training or pretty much any workout that makes you sweat half of your body weight.
They also dry pretty quickly, so you can use really make good use out of them when you’re doing long sessions, like training for marathons. You can just wash it just like you would with your ordinary towels at home and yoga towels won’t lose its grip.
And if you’re a fan of athleisure wear and coordinating your gear with your outfits, then you can mix and match hot yoga towels are well. With numerous brands offering them on their shops, they have a variety of patterns and colors that you can hoard to match your workout clothes.
Our Top 10 Hot Yoga Towels
We’ll be listing down the top yoga towels that you can purchase online. We’ve rated them based on how they fare with gripping properly on a surface, how long they last, and if they’re affordable.
Now, for the downside—if you’re someone who sweats buckets, it may not be as absorbent as you’d want it to be. Also, after throwing it in the wash once or twice, you may notice some of the threads coming loose. Plus, the grips may not work as well on some surfaces.
Shantihi is a New Zealand-based company and their brand means “peace” in Sanskrit. The company will email a free ebook with every purchase of their towel, as well as a mandala page for them to color on to relieve stress.
Our Rating: 6/10
While Shantihi has gotten a lot of positive feedback, the cons mentioned above can be complete deal breakers that not even their freebies can make up for.
Customer reviews seem to love the Tingueli hot yoga towel for its cooling properties, as well as being quick drying. It’s made out of microfiber and has similar, if not better, quality with higher-end brands. It’s not as expensive, but it’s not cheaply-made either. There’s also a lifetime money-back guarantee from the brand, if ever you decide that you don’t want
Our Rating: 9/10
The only con that we can say about this towel is the fact that the colors/patterns may not be suitable for everyone
The towel delivers on its promises of being soft and absorbent at the same time, non-slip, and feeling great on the skin. But on the other hand, you can never please everyone. The colors aren’t as bright as it is in photos. So if you’re expecting something that’s in “loud” and “happy” colors, don’t because when it arrives, they’re quite muted.
While the brand claims that this towel is made of anti-microbial material, please don’t be a slob and try your best to wash it at least once a week to keep it from getting stinky.
Our Rating: 9.5/10
If you want to tap into people’s positivity and happiness, maybe make sure that they’re going to get the right color saturation that you have in photos. But kudos on delivering on the other features!
The brand claims that their product is made out of “100% premium microfiber materials (85% Polyester + 15% Polyamide)” which makes it non-slip. However, user reviews advice that it should be spritzed with water first to make sure it grips on the floor or yoga mat, but this hack may not work for everyone.
Our Rating: 8/10
There are apparently some inconsistencies in the quality of the product, especially when it comes to the grip and drying. However, we didn’t rate it lower because Yoga Jaci has excellent customer service support. If you’re dissatisfied with what you got, simply give them a call or shoot them an email and they’ll replace the product AND give you a refund
They don’t add too many frills on their product description. They’re straight to the point and describe their yoga towels properly. We just wish that it were in stock!
Our Rating: 10/10
We would rate it lower because we’re bitter at the fact that it’s out of stock, but we just don’t have the heart for it. It’s such a well-made product that we’re advising you to hoard a variety of it the next time it becomes available again. Turn on your notifications so you can add it to your cart immediately!
Of the 47 reviews of it online, only one had a qualm about the non-slip feature of this yoga towel. Well, nothing that little spritzes of water couldn’t fix, of course.
Our Rating: 9.5/10
We held back on the remaining .5 in the rating because not every product is as perfect as the previous one on this list. Sometimes, non-slip yoga towels can slip and that’s okay.

The product is made out of microfiber, which promises to eliminate odors and prevent bacteria and molds from growing on it. The towel is sturdy enough to keep from slipping on a surface while being used, but soft enough to not leave your skin feeling raw when you use it to wipe.
Our Rating: 10/10
While it has the same rating as the JKMEOO and Anandamuni yoga towels, what sets LHOTSEE’s apart is the fact that it their towel also comes in a smaller size, which is perfect for people who would rather have something separate for the sweat on their hands and face.
However, there have been customer complaints about the material used for the towels. You see, hot yoga towels are supposed to be soft and provide extra cushioning while you’re on a yoga mat. For AAA Elite Yoga, they claim that their towel is made of premium microfiber, but some threads apparently come loose after being washed and that it isn’t as soft and gentle on the skin. Sad.
Our Rating: 6/10
It’s horrible enough for a towel to claim to be non-slip when it actually slips even when you spritz it with water, but not being as soft and as premium as it claims? That’s just bad.
The company has a seven day money back guarantee if you’re not completely happy with their product, but at that price point, people really shouldn’t expect much especially if you’re getting two towels. And well, the reviews are saying the same.
People are complaining that the grip can get quite inconsistent, while others do seem dissatisfied at the fact that these towels tend to slip when things get more intense and sweatier.
Our Rating: 6.5/10
While their product page looks extremely good, with close ups of the features, it does look like it’s made of thin fabric that it might come loose if you switch poses. We’re looking for a yoga towel that won’t move too easily.
